A story to tell
From the arrival of Māori and later Captain James Cook, to the devastating 1931 earthquake, the region has been built and shaped upon a rich history with stories to be told.
You can easily hop your way through local museums in the region piecing together the stories of the past, even walking around Napier you'll find reminders on every corner of the life once lived.
The Ongaonga Historical Village is a beautiful example of a community nurturing their past, carefully restoring the buildings in particular the Coles Brothers building, now listed as a category 1 heritage site, open to the public on Sundays between 11-3pm, it's worth a visit.
