Touring Routes connect Hawke's Bay by road to the north, west and south, while daily direct flights from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch make Hawke's Bay Airport one of New Zealand's busiest.

Travel by Road

Driving to Hawke's Bay is a breeze from anywhere - and the scenery is not too shabby either!

  • From the North/West: We're just a short hop (about 90 mins) from Taupo on the Thermal Explorer Highway (SH5). 
  • From the East: Take the Pacific Coast Highway from Gisborne (SH2)  into Northern Hawke's Bay and Wairoa. 
  • From the South: From Wellington, head up the Classic New Zealand Wine Trail (SH2) through the Wairarapa - you'll be in Central Hawke's Bay in just over 3hrs.

Hawke's Bay Airport is 10 minutes' drive from Napier's city centre and 25 minutes from Hastings.

Air New Zealand operates daily flights from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

Air Napier operates charter flights from airports all over New Zealand.  

Sunair offers weekday connections to/from Wairoa, Gisborne, Hamilton, Whakatane and Tauranga.

Travel by Sea
