The track begins at the Sunrise carpark, and a short walk following the farm track will lead you to the Triplex Hut. The 12 bunk hut is surrounded by grass and a great spot to rest or stay overnight.
Roughly 100 metres prior to reaching Triplex Hut, you'll find an access point to Swamp Track. The low level track takes approximately 1 hour to complete as you meander through a mix of Beech, Rimu and Kahikatea Forest to the base of the Sunrise track, before looping back to Triplex Hut.
The Triplex Hut derived its name from Hamish Armstrong, a pilot who crashed into the saddle in the 1930's. The wreckage of his plane was discovered weeks later, but Hamish Armstrong was never located. A shirt labelled 'XXX' was the only clue to his whereabouts.
